How long will drive live after such "repair" ? Grenada is the most hilarious family for such a procedure.

this kind of " REPAIR " will make bad hdd with faulty head live normally , and will work perfect after depop bad head

Do you have statistics of drive failures? Grenada for example... 90+% have scratched surface. If you think that such drives will work PERFECT - I can only feel sorry for those happy customers of such drives.

If the cause of the bad head was physical, wouldn't there be crap flying around in the drive?

you have bad head , and you totally depop it , and now you use good head with good surface
tools we use it for repair hundreds of hdd's in all F3 , here we talk about cut head function like in WD Drives , not by add defects to NRG list , this solution help to Fix ( Repair ) such drives , NOT Trash it any more ,

if you have at least one good head , then you can remove other bad head by tools , also due to bad heads , if other surface is good you can use it
also if you have bad sector's you can handel that
tools solved the difficulties of depop head Function in F3 Family , we built it after very detailed research in F3 Firmware Structure , so after depop any head , hdd will not see it again , like depop Function in WD Exactly , even hdd clicking due to bad head , after remove Faulty head if other heads are ok HDD will work perfect with other surface

What is difference between Depop and disable . Is depop will help in data recovery ? In case say out of 6 heads 2 heads are damaged ,then by depoping crashed heads how can we recover data ? ( as zones and sectors and other metadata of partitions ,file system etc covered by crashed heads will not be there. )
Anyway this seems to be good for repairs.
great skillsets of hpwlab

this tools is for Repair issue ,
but also you can use for head map arrangement , and this function is good for recovery
some F3 use physical map , not logical map ,by mapping bad head you can recover data from good heads , this is need imager to image data

but again tool is for repair , not for recovery

Here is not a place to advertise. Its normal to discuss ideas here. Its great you found out SAP structure and make depop head possible. My approach is directed to usability of such drives.
