WD5000BMVW-11S5XS0

Hello!
I have received the drive in topic (WD5000BMVW-11S5XS0 - FireBird - 2060-771801-002) with completely fried ROM and 2 missing legs. :)

I have connected ROM IC to programmer but unfortunately, all I get in hex is (FF).
I have tried several ROM's and LDR's but no luck. No access to SA to determine the correct version of original ROM.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Firebird have unique data in ROM in module 4F, so you'll need the original ROM.

Maybe someone can access the damaged ROM. I very much doubt it's "fried", more like someone tried to switch it to another PCB and broke it :-(

It is a problem.

Firebird have unique data in ROM in module 4F as stated.

Also if you have external ROM then there are no copy of ROM modules and 4F on platter.

You may want to try "hot swap" but most likely it will not work as well ...

Maybe you should try some more combinations of ROM/Module 11 and pray ?

Post a picture of your damaged rom chip. Many "slaughtered" chips can still be accessed.

And that kids, is why you never use a flamethrower to remove a ROM chip :lol:

This is exactly what's wrong with people doing DIY recovery.

Recovering adaptives on those is PITA.
It is possible and I have done it before but it is so not economically feasible for me that I gave up on those.
There is at least one guy here who could it do it faster then me if he would be interested he would probably ping you.

I can see blocks of adaptives (little-endian). Perhaps one could collate the adaptive data from several ROMs and then determine average values for each set. It shouldn't be too difficult to write a tool to automate this process.
