Hi,
I have a problem with following HDD:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12
ST31000524AS
FW: JC4B
Board: 100650117 REV A

The thing is that my HDD is not detected in PC BIOS for more than couple seconds. It shows up only 1 time when I turn on the PC and PCB is cold. After a while, PCB is becoming warmer and it is not possible to make it work anylonger. The only option is to unplug the whole hdd until its temperatures gets lower. In both cases(lower and higher temperatures), hdd is spinning.

I have read on the internet that this might be the problem with electronics and that I have to swap PCBs as i need to recover the data from this drive. I have also found out that my pcb needs to be exactly the same(in my case: 100650117). However, i have 3 other Seagate 7200.12 drives but these are slightly different. Specs:
ST31000528AS
Fw: CC35
Board: 100536501 REV A

The question is: Can I swap those PCBs(with replacing IC BIOS as it has different firmwares)?
I wouldn't ask that question however, while I was looking for PCB, I found this site:
http://www.hddzone.com/st31000528as-sea ... p-734.html
It is written that this board is coming from ST31000528AS.
Hopefully, my first post is understandable enough :D

You may be able to stabilise your drive by disabling certain parameters in the firmware. You will need a serial TTL adapter (~US$5) to do this.

I have written ZOC scripts to make it a little easier for you.

ZOC Scripts - Seagate F3 Arch - Set Mode Page Parameters :
http://www.hddoracle.com/viewtopic.php?f=113&t=1867

These are the commands:

Code:
F"READ_SPARING_ENABLED",0,22
F"WRITE_SPARING_ENABLED",0,22
F"OFFLINE_SPARING_ENABLED",0,22
F"DAR_ENABLED",0,22
F"DISABLE_IDLE_ACTIVITY",1,22
F"BGMS_DISABLE_DATA_REFRESH",1,22
F"ABORT_PREFETCH",1,22
F"READ_LOOKAHEAD_DISABLED_ON_POWER_UP",1,22
F"READ_CACHING_DISABLED_ON_POWER_UP",1,22
F"MediaCacheControl",00,22

ZOC Terminal - SSH Client, Telnet Client and Terminal Emulator:
https://www.emtec.com/zoc/

WARNING: The commands are Case Sensitive.
