Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Two hitachi laptop drives differ in their MLC and P/N.
Model number and the first 2 lines on the pcb sticker match exactly.
Is NVRAM swap a must? Or it won't work even with NVRAM swap because of the difference in MLC and P/N?
It is a HTS541616J9SA00. The patient is not not with me yet.
Thanks.

This sounds like an RTFM type of question.
These pcbs have MCU with internal ROM, you must match the rom version otherwise a whole bunch of problems will arise.
I am not sure if MLC or P/N has any relation to rom version to be honest. I never cared about those, just find the appropriate pcb in my drawer...
