Disk Hitachi HDS721025CLA382 has worked for 6 years well and quietly. However, since it has not much space, there were not always enough place for video and textbooks. The processor is also slow, it's Pentium 4, 2GB RAM. However, websites when loading took much place, video and music also took lots of disk space, that's why the processor has always been loaded on 100% and free disk space rarely was more than 5 GB. I always had to delete old files before I downloaded new music or books. Browsers were also very slow, they took up the entire operating memory and loaded processor on 60%. Recently, few days ago, I freed up nearly 20 GB of space, I decided to download my favorite tv-show through torrent. When the video file was downloading I heard the sound of a spinning spindle or parking of heads. Initially the intervals between spinning were small, and then more frequent and louder. And suddenly it gone quiet, the desktop with the cursor did not move, only time on the taskbar was working. So, I shut down the computer. And then, in an hour, I tried to turn computer on, there was a quiet clicking and spinning sound, and the message "reboot and select proper boot device or insert a boot media in selected boot device and press a key" on the screen. Next times I was trying to turn hdd on again and every time I heard only silence from it like I didn't work anymore. I wanted to scan disk for errors with HDDScan, but BIOS doesn't detect the drive. So what do you think could happened to it so suddenly? I want to try to repair it on my own, so I need your help with it. How do you think could the problem be in the controller board or in printed circuit board?

The enter key seems to have failed also.

Is the power supply of the computer of the same age ( around 6 years ) ? It may be out of spec, and could have damaged the disk.

Ideally, you would need to try the disk in another computer, to see it is some problem with cables / psu. After that, proceed with investigation or, really, buy another disk. Your 250GB one is already old, and even if it comes to work again, shouldn´t be trusted for continuos operation anymore.

Also, while you are with the disk out of the computer, look at the pcb for scorch marks, also in the connectors. It could even be something like a oxidized or broken connector ( in the hdd or in the psu cable ) .

Measure the resistance of the two TVS diodes ("14" and "Z2") and the two R100 (?) resistors near the SATA power connector at the top left corner.

I checked all diodes. I signed with red cursor both-way diodes, and with blue - one way diodes. Question mark - I don't know what is that.

Your image is not helpful.

What are the resistances of the TVS diodes and "fuses"?

http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/HD ... EEPROM.jpg

Use the 200 ohms range of your meter.

I hope there were routine backups being made before all of this happened.
If not, it might be time for a DR company/specialist to attempt data recovery?

The fuses, when I meter with 200 Ohms, show 00.6

TVS diodes with 200 ohms doesn't work. It work only when I switch to diode mode. Also when I swith the meter to 20k ohms 5V TVS Diode shows something like 9.88, and with 200 Ohms doesn't show anything. I don't understant what that means.

Now I rechecked. Tvs diode on the left showed 9.3k ohm and on the right 3.3k ohm

With the meter in diode mode, does both TVS show continuity in one direction, and open circuit in another ?

Measure the voltages at Vcore, Vio and +5V.

Here is a similar Vcore circuit from a different Hitachi model:
