WD Family Search Tool

I notice a lot of people constantly asking what family a certain WD drive is. So, I've put together a search tool where you can just type in the model of a WD Marvel series drive and it'll tell you the family. It should work for 99% of drives, only a few really new ones might not be in there yet.

I guess none of those are codes I've got in my list yet. It's probably just returning the result closest alphabetically to that after dash code. I'll need to work in an IF statement to not return results that are only "close" but not exact matches.

I don't suppose you know what those families are so I can add them to the list?

OK, I fixed the field to only return exact matches so you won't get false families anymore.

By all means feel free to post additional ones you know so I can add them to the search. I've got a running list here that I based it off of: https://www.data-medics.com/forum/ident ... -t636.html

But, I'm always looking to add more. Seems that different drives are popular in different places, so they don't all ever seem to cross my desk.

Eventually, I plan to add a feature where it'll pull up a list of other models from the family for easy reference when searching for donors.

Thanks, added that one. I'm not sure what the obsession is with keeping WD families a "secret". It really only takes 2 seconds to read it out of module C5 anyway when one arrives. I've just yet to have any of those codes show up here.

Regardless, the tool is more just intended for quick reference. Not to reveal any new information.

I plan to eventually add the functionality where it'll pull up a list of other models common to the family for faster donor searching. But, perhaps I should keep that tucked away in my forum's secrets section since apparently WD drive families are such a secret.

WT0N is a Giant but you have listed in three different families
WN4A is not a Tresselb but that's probably what the C5 says

The ones listed incorrectly are probably based on firmware resources I've collected from around the web or mentions from forum posts, but not necessarily ones I've had here in person.

I'll admit, my tool is a work in progress (I only started it yesterday), but one that could be quite useful to us all, especially if others contribute updates, corrections, etc. and we fine tune it.

Some others might be off because I added them to my original list before PC-3000 had a specific family for them. So I just listed a family who's utility was close enough to work with the drive.

-00WN4A0 is TresXLB2 which wasn't in the software a year ago.

Module 11h sometimes contains a family name. I suspect that the drive will ID as "WDC ROM MODEL xxxxx" if it cannot load module 02h.

Yes, but since the A never varies I just left it in there. The search tool actually only used the three letters, not all four. It's not actually searching on that sheet, I just used the list I'd collected there to build my other search tool.

I've made those corrections Kojn_RE is now spelled correctly, and I've added that one to Endeavor family.

If a few more experienced guys are willing to add the families they know we can all enjoy a nice tool.
