Hello friends,

have a problem with a Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 Hard-Drive. The PCB was dead (not spinning), and the customer bought a donor-PCB (matching first two lines on the Sticker) and soldered U5 from old PCB to the new one. Now the drive is spinning but has no ID.

I could initialize the Drive in PC3K by choosing the Family (HDx7210SL) and the "Switch SA Access"-Button. Could Read most modules (see Log). in DE Drive read with 99% Errors an extremly slow on all Heads. SA-Structure-Test shows following Errors:
Quote:

I tried the NV-RAM adjustment-method and rewrite PSHT and RDMT factory copy to 0 and 1 as described here http://forum.acelaboratory.com/viewtopi ... 772#p26880 but nothing changed.

As Igor wrote here http://forum.acelaboratory.com/viewtopi ... 398#p25619 "there are several bytes that can be changed in NV-RAM" ... NV-RAM is attached.

Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks in advance!
Boerge

The problem is that the donor's "ROM" code does not match the patient's NVRAM version. The ROM code would normally reside in the flash memory at U7. However, this location is unpopulated on your PCB, so the ROM must be embedded within the MCU. Therefore you need to find a donor whose ROM code matches your NVRAM (or fudge your NVRAM to match your donor ROM?).

Thanks fzabkar...but how to find a better matching donor-PCB? Patient's MCU is dead (was extreme hot). PCB-PN (0A90159) and the first two lines on the Sticker (0A29991 BA3263) are matching with the patient but i.e. the RAM-Chip U4 is a "EtronTech" instead of Samsung. Also the Inductors and the ROM-Chip are from other Manufacturers. If anyone has a more compatible Board, please let me know.

Sticker on Top shows following:
P/N: 0A38016
S/N: MQ0BZ1XS
MLC: BA3120
Date: APR-2010
HDA-Barcode: STH608

PCB-Info:
P/N: 0A90159
white Sticker: 0A29991 BA3263 Mz9005 V165
RAM (U4): Samsung K4D261638K
MCU: 0A58786
Rom-Chip (U5): RL86 9U42W

Thanks a lot

This is NVRAM chip!
There is no ROM chip on this PCB, only mask ROM.

Try to find a copy of NVRAM in SA and check its version against ROM version and USAG version.

The following search results produce 3 differently populated OA90158 PCBs (similar to OA90159):

http://search.store.yahoo.net/yhst-14437584971410/cgi-bin/nsearch?query=HDT721010SLA360&searchsubmit=Go&vwcatalog=yhst-14437584971410&.autodone=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hdd-parts.com%2F

https://sep.yimg.com/ay/yhst-1443758497 ... ions-4.gif (U5, OA58786 LSI MCU)
https://sep.yimg.com/ay/yhst-1443758497 ... 4252-3.gif (U5 & U7, OA58730 LSI MCU)
https://sep.yimg.com/ay/yhst-1443758497 ... 4126-8.gif (U5 & U7, OA56992 infineon MCU)

ISTM that it might be possible to use a donor PCB with an OA58730 or OA56992 MCU and reprogram its ROM (U7) with code from a suitable resource dump.
