Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Good Afternoon All,
I've recently come across a batch of Hitachi VSP 600GB 2.5" SAS Drives. (R5C-J600SS, 5541892-A, HUC106060CSS600, 0B25662)
Now these are 520byte sector size from the factory. However, unlike similar NetApp drives, they don't initialise correctly after being reformatted at 512 bytes.
I believe this to be a firmware issue, and so i'm hoping someone could help us out with a firmware file.
The firmware version on the factory drive is 'APAP'.
I have however seen the exact same HDS VSP drive working in standard servers (512 bytes) with firmware version 'FPFP'.
Would anyone be able to provide this file? It would be a huge help.
Thanks

The following article describes two methods to change the block size:

That doesn't help i'm afraid. As stated above, I can change the block size but the drive will not initialise. I'm very familiar with changing the block size but this drive has something else preventing it from functioning in standard servers.

Sorry, I misunderstood.

Have you had any luck with these? I have the exact same drives with this issue.

Hi mates.
I recently purchased 8 similar drives on ebay, and reformat using SAS HBA works fine for me including drives with APAP firmware. However array constantly degraded in active usage unfortunately. I found Dell FW for these drives and going to try it today.

I'm keen to know the result. I have the same problem, not initialized by windows disk manager.

Anyone got a solution to this as yet?

Hydata claims to, but don't bother going to their broken web site.
