Hi to All,

Is there a way to recover data from an encrypted CCTV DVR (IP VISION) hard drive?

Thanks for the help.

Has the password been lost, or the dvr failed ? Some times, it is easier to fix the dvr

No, the dvr is working and the password is not lost.

just an employee deleted some video and the customer wants to recover that videos.

when I scan the drive, I don't find anything and all the data seems to be encrypted.

Does this DVR allow the recordings to be saved to an external drive in unencrypted form? If so, then I'm wondering if there is any way to "trick" the DVR into decrypting its erased content.

Perhaps you could record a single encrypted session on a test drive. Ensure that this session fills the entire drive and occupies a single file. Then patch your customer's data into this test file and save it to your external drive. Of course this assumes that the encryption key is the same for all drives. Also, the decrypted test file probably won't be playable, but it may be scan-able.

I suppose you could also do a little research by taking a blank drive and recording a very short session, say 1 second. Then clone the result. Next, set a password and clone it again. Then compare the user areas and the SA/NVRAM/etc.

Good idea. I didn't think about it.

Thanks for the help.

As the customer was in a hurry, I cloned his drive and returned back his DVR. and started working on it.

I thought there is a way to decrypt data that way but it's not the first time I get an encrypted DVR data.

When I search on google, few posts/forums talk about it!
