Western digital 3.0 TB hard drive problem.

September 2nd, 2017, 9:57

I need help with a western digital 3.0 TB hard drive. It is completely full of data and I can't access it at all. When powered up the disk is spinning but disk management doesn't see it until the disk stops. Then in disk management it shows up as disk 1 unknown not initialized with no allocated data shown. When trying to initialize to GPT it gives an error of Virtual disk manager : The specified disk is not convertible because the size is less than the minimum size required for GPT disks. I've tried several freeware data recovery software packages with no luck. The drive is not making any strange noises and sounds normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just to update: The above information was given using a SATA to USB bridge adapter. I recently tried to connect the hard drive directly to motherboard using a confirmed working SATA port. The drive now does not show up in disk management at all. It does still power up and spins, just can't read. I'm trying to access the drive with Windows 10 Home Edition 64 bit (OS). Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the response. It's a Western Digital 3.0TB model # WD30EZRS. The computer will not boot with the drive connected internally, it goes to the BIOS screen showing all connected drives except for this one. The drive location says NONE. After disconnecting this drive, booting the computer and reconnecting the power to the drive it starts spinning. When I connect the sata port cable the drive spins for approximately 2 mins then stops. Thank you again, I'm hoping this drive is repairable.

I'm afraid it's beyond DIY
if the data on it is important
send it to a DR PRO ("not" to a computer repair shop/computer technician)

Would replacing the PCB board be any help?
