Toshiba 2.5 PCB swap

October 9th, 2017, 9:48

Hi everyone,

I have a HDD Toshiba MQ01ACF050 with the PCB dead (oxidation with coca-cola), I went on Ebay and I bought a new PCB for the same model, revision, hard-drive code, manufacturing country and same BIOS revision.

I mounted the PCB on my drive, now, motor are working but I can see my partitions on the computer (Linux/Windows).

Looking for some tips, I saw this thread:
viewtopic.php?t=9265

Can someone tell if on my model I have to swap IC or something like that ?
If I have to swap IC, can you tell which I have to swap please ?

Here goes my PCBs:

My two PCBs, first one damaged, second one, from ebay normally working.

Many thanks.

Regards.

Hi

Yes, you MUST swap the ROM chip from bad PCB to new PCB. And the chip is IC602. Be very careful with this chips because they are sensitive to extreme heat.

Good luck.

Agreed, also they are a little fragile and if you break it (or cook it) it’s pretty much “game over” :-(

if you do not have much practice moving these types of chips, it might be safer to try repairing the original pcb

Hi guys,

Many thanks for your response, it's very helpful.

OK for IC602, can you tell which is the ROM chip (IC's number on the board) ?

I just see Colanco response! I have electronic specialist guys that they will do the swap, I won't do myself, but is my question, it wouldn't be easiest to try to repair the damaged zone (it seems that 2 or 3) resistors are burnt than swap ICs ?

Thanks for your help.

Have a good night.

Hi,

Thanks to both, for photo, details and the link, I was thinking that I need to swap 2 ICs! Now is clear, only IC602 from the old to the new!
I will do that next week and let you know if it solved my problem.

Many thanks.

Have a nice day.
