Haven't worked with WD Zeus family in quite some time.

We're working on a case that needed new heads. Created a smart hot swap donor with a very compatible drive (its partner in a RAID assembly).

I can't get the smart hot swap donor to stay in standby mode. After execution, it waits a few seconds; goes busy; and spins up (using PC3K).

Anyone recall how to force this into a true standby mode?

THX

Doesn't changing head map in RAM work for you on this one? That's what I usually do.

Sometimes the "Spin down" option works rather than the "Stand By".

If memory serves me correctly, I used to either do a fresh power off and on before doing the spindown or maybe it was a soft reset. But, I do recall that it was a PITA.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I used to do the head map change, and for some reason I didn't try it (maybe because it was multiple steps involving the ROM).

The spin down command did it, but I had to find it (it's among the commands on the right side, which I don't frequent). This seemed to be the path of least resistance.

Much obliged.

yes, techno spin down works for some families where stand by did't work.
