Firstly, what was the actual problem with the drive?

Secondly, why did you do a platter swap?

the HDD during cloning operation stop works at 5%, and platters start clicking!

You can find new platters in a new hard disk of the same brand, but how would that help you to recover the data ?

Also, from your last message, I think you mean heads, not platters. Or you really have replaced the platters ( the round things, where data is stored ) ??

As for tools for replacing the heads, you can take a look of the hddsurgery subforum here :
viewforum.php?f=26

They produce the tools you would need.

As for heads, you need to find and buy other ( working ) disk with compatible head . It would help if you provide the full model of the disk. A good picture of the label would be even better so that somebody could check and point you to compatible models.

Why and how did the drive originally fail?

What was the condition of the heads that you removed?

Without proper diagnosis, you are shooting in the dark.

Without knowledge, experience, and a clean room, the odds are way against you. If you value the data, bring it to a pro.

Thank's for the guide! i really appreciate! i confirm that i had just make 1 attemp to swap broken head but.. somethings gone bad.. initially hdd start correclty the operations of cloning raw data mode, but it stops again at 5% when i remove the cover i found a small piece of paper on the broken head... so what about now? can you giude to buy replacements head and some cheap tools ? everythings logic board it's ok.. but i'm not sure on platters now.. do i have to make a visual check on platters ?

After all that has happened / been done to the drive, if the data is important you should it to a professional. I thing @northwind from this forum is near you ( Italy / Greece ). ( There may be others that I am forgetting, sorry folks ! )

If data is not important, just trash the drive. The cost of good drives and tools will not be worth it for a one-off.

Well, this would be the expected.

I don't want to question your abilities, but I understand that you wouldn't expect the heads to work properly, although I must admit, I'm surprised that the hdd even came to be recognized

i don't have so much abilities.. i know.. and right equipment.. but i really need to understand what is the problem now.. if i take back original platters on donor hdd everythings it's ok but if i put platter to be recovered to donor i have this CRC error.. what this errors mean? platters damaged? but i can't see relevant scratched areas.. shoul i clean platters ?

Thank's

Thank's

CRC refers to errors in the integrity of data read in the corresponding sector

They occur for several reasons, including slight damage to surfaces or heads. In your case, if you have exchanged the platters (madness) you have lost alignment.

ok alignment how can i make right alignment now ? or just to make some try ?

Re: HITACHI data recovery 5k500.b-500

This doesn't work that way. I don't even know if you can get the alignment back without marking them first (if this is one of your problems), I've never needed it.

Not everything can be reversible and you have to admit that your data is probably no longer recoverable, at least at a reasonable cost, but I suppose you already knew that.....

Yahh You completely right... but i want to understand more so could you explain ? about alignement i mean ? some schematics ?? why alignment affect reading and write data ?

Thank's :!:

I confess I don't understand the "alignment" issue. Isn't the point of an embedded servo to eliminate the necessity for alignment?
