Help with a non accessible Hitachi HDD Drive

Hello,

I would like to rescue Data from a defective Hitachi HDD which does not show up anymore in Bios or OS.
The HDD Model is Hitachi 5k750.
When I connect the HDD to the power source I can hear normal spin up of the motor and first head activity.

I have access to the exact same model of the HDD (same Type ID, Firmware, same MLC code etc, only diffrence is the serial number), and was wondering if switching their pcb would help get access to the data. I did this type of switching a decade ago with an IDE Drive and it worked out well but I don't know if the rules have changed with modern SATA drives.

I read somewehere that in addition to PCB exchange, I also need to exchange the ROM chip containing calibration Data which is unique for every HDD. Is this info correct?

No, you can´t and shouldn´t just replace the board on this one. There are hitachi models where starting the hdd with a different board and eeprom will affect the data , and may make the recovery much more costly.

You would need to swap the rom chip, yes, but first you should identify if the problem is really the board. Has the disk suffered some power surge, etc ? Any burnt signs ?

No Power surge but physical shock while running. Sorry just got the info from my friend for whom I am trying to rescue the data.

99% sure it is not a PCB problem. Think about it: how could electronics get damaged as result of physical shock while running?
It is internal mechanism problem, typically heads.

if the Data is important COnsult with Professionals, might be Head Stuck only which can be done with basic charges if you keep experimenting on it condition might get worse & cost you more money .....
