Hi guys,

Just wanted to ask a quick question.

I think I may have found a suitable donor drive but just want someone else’s opinion, details below:

Original drive:
P/N: WDBACX0010BBK-00
Model: WDBACX0010BBK-EESN
R/N: C4B
DCM: AAAFCAA

Donor drive:
P/N: WDBACX0010BRD-01
Model: WDBACX0010BRD-EESN
R/N: C4B
DCM: ABAHFAA

As this is a portable HDD I assume the BK and RD at the end of the model number relates to the color of the casing as the donor drive is red and the original drive is black.

Any help would be appreciated.

For doner search you need to use the label on the drive itself, not the one from the enclosure.

Thank you for the reply.

Just taken my drive out of the enclosure and the details differ from the label on the box.

Ultimately I am looking for a drive online and have found one on eBay (as written is op), which is unopened.
Is there anyway I would be able to identify whether the donor drive is suitable without purchasing it and opening it up?

You should be able to find one online very easy.
What is your goal? Is it your drive, do you need data, what tools and experience do you have?

The drive is mine and failed about 6 years ago, I don't really need the data back but it would be nice to have it after all these years. A friend of mine works at a dr firm, so I would get him to repair the drive.

Just found another donor drive based on the HDD label, could you please inform me on whether this would be suitable.

Original drive:
Model: WD10TMVW-11ZSMS1
R/N: 771737
Date: 05 FEB 2011
DCM: HHMTJHBN
Product of: Thailand

Donor drive:
Model: WD10TMVW-11ZSMS1
R/N: 771737
Date: 28 JAN 2011
DCM: HHMTJBNN
Product of: Thailand

Thank you.

Thank you for your time and help.

One last question if you know the answer to it. The data on the drive is encrypted using TC, how would that work in relation to the recovery? I assume the drive would be repaired and then each sector copied to another a new drive and then the new drive could be mounted and decrypted by the user without any issues.

If the drive is successful repaired, yes, the user can restore the data from the clone.

In case the software used doesn´t accept the clone, you may need to ask the user for the password and make the decryption yourself, from the original drive.
