do you try

set password>>>>>>then command fast erase? It's ATA standard SECURITY FORMAT UNIT.. If you have ATA command executor you can do this yourself :o

format prepare
Security format unit

check ATA spec

I use this command to repaire IBM HD. no need other function, only erase , need the fastest speed.

Hello huayuliang,

I am sure it is frustrating, but guru answered your question exactly,

do some searching and you will find some flow diagrams on how security
is treated in hard disk drives then you will see how mhdd does fasterase.

This function is not by program mhdd but mhdd using an ATA feature.

thanks!!

But I can't understand why need type USER password during use the "fasterase".
why? I think its function is erase all data of HDD, the "erase" didn't need password. and my HDD hasn't be set any password.

ATA set the standard and it sets the procedures, when you know them
you will understand them.

You must find some IBM data sheets :

Here is an example :

Code:

User Password Lost ??

LEVEL ? High

DO :  Unlock CMD with Master Password
RESULT : Normal operation

LEVEL ? Maximum
DO : Erase Prepare Command
DO : Erase Unit Command with Master Password
RESULT : Normal operation but data lost

Here is from a typical IBM datasheet :

Code:
If the User Password is forgotten and High level security is set,
the system user cannot access any data.
However the device can be unlocked using the Master Password.
If a system user forgets the User Password and Maximum security level is set, data access is impossible.
However the device can be unlocked using the Security Erase Unit command to unlock the device and erase all user data [b]with the Master Password.[/b]
