ST2000DM001 - heads donor match

December 5th, 2017, 10:02

Hello, i need a heads donor for ST2000DM001 SN:Z1Exxxxx FW:CC45 PN:1E6164-570. Can't find any close donor at my stock, but maybe someone has experience with other models that match?

If you have other ones of the same model with the "1E" in the serial number, try putting the patient PCB(along with patient ROM) onto the donor HDA. If it stays spinning, there's a good chance the heads are a match. Also, you can often ignore the -570 in the part number.

Thank you, that was a good advice, so i have a few options. In the meantime i've cleaned the heads and the data is recovering.

Cleaning heads on DMs can do wonders :)

If you don't mind my asking, what was your heads cleaning method? Micro-brushes, ultrasonic, other? I've tried various techniques but always had pretty mixed results with the DMs. This has been a topic of much discussion over on my forum.

Well... just IPA with a paper towel on a needle and microscope. Had to clean them 5 times till now but i have more than 80GB copied till now. The worst part is the beginning of the drive. It was started more than 20 times before i got it. And it was clicking twice and stoped with Fail Servo Resp=0007 and 0003. So each time the drive stops i have to clean them to get DRD. Hopefuly i'll get most or even all the data on original heads.

I use IPA and MiraSWABS from pcimage, viewtopic.php?f=15&t=35046
reminds me that i have to reorder :)

And yes, sometimes you have to clean several times for 1 GB, and suddenly 1 TB reads without trouble.

So pcimage will sell you just one bag and not make you buy an entire $2,400 case?

I'll have to contact him.
