Hello,

I need to clone a Seagate Fiber channel HDD (ST33xxxxxFC) that was part of a RAID on a IBM storage enclousure.

How can I do it using a PC/standalone server? Anyone had a similar situation?

All ideas are welcome.

Thanks

hi,
check Drive interface first SAS, SCSi or SATA you can use any pc for SATA disk or any SAS controller which convert SAS to SATA or SCSI Controller,
winhex, or any software you can use for cloning......

I think that is the wrong way round. Looks like it is For SATA hdd to FC .. looks like part of a caddy but just the interposer. I think there is no adapter for FC to SATA without using FC enclosure, HBA and fibre cables. I may be wrong of course, but we use an old HP enclosure with matching HBA and Cables. Cables are about 20m long so can run on any computer without humping the enclosure about..

I don't think you can adapt to SATA or SAS actually.

I think the last time I looked into this, anticipating that one would eventually arrive here, I found this site: http://www.cs-electronics.com

Which has adapters such as you see at the bottom of this page: http://www.cs-electronics.com/product-c ... -adapters/

But, then you still need the necessary hardware to connect to the computer, cable, etc.

This article might provide some guidance: http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/e ... uage=en-us

Quoted from Seagate:

Quote:
Although Fibre Channel drives use the SCSI command language, they require a special Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter controller. Seagate Fibre Channel drives are designed to be installed into an enclosure using a backplane that accepts the 40-pin SCA connector. To install a Fibre Channel device without using the appropriate enclosure/backplane, an adapter kit is necessary. This adapter kit will convert the 40-pin SCA connector to a connection with separate interface and power connectors.

You need a T-Card, FC controller(I recommend Q-Logic) and fiberoptic LC to LC cable
I know only one place that makes T-Cards - http://www.cs-electronics.com/product/4 ... d-adapter/
yeah, expensive
