Invalid geometry after pcb swap

January 6th, 2018, 9:12

WD hdd has 771959 sata board and works perfectly. Trying to test a 771962 usb board coming from a faulty drive (all heads gone). The sata hdd with the usb pcb is detected in device manager but fails to show up in disk management. Victoria says invalid geometry and 0 size. Can somebody explain why this happens and how to fix geometry?

771962 pcb has a different controller chip than 771959! This way these two pcb's are not compatible.

The matching board for 771959 is 771494. However as Spildit says you need to swap the ROM and it may not work due to encryption. I have never tried this the wrong way round (swapping SATA with USB) so let us know how you get on.
