Thanks for the extra info. I do have a bunch of VSC that should work on those drives - prior to AA/BB but the start SS VSC (for those drives) doesn't do anything. I can use Super ON and then some Super Format VSC and also some FW reading VSC commands on those (prior to AA/BB. Super On is completly different from AA/BB super on. Super Format is the same but AA/BB support more "options" / TYPE (on Cyl field of task register).
I don't think that the drive would "survive" the Self-Scan anyway.
And yes, HDD48 allow Self-Scan on AA and BB .... The option is not present on "older" models....
