This is the first time I have seen one of these so thought I would share. I am sure some of the more 'seasoned' data recovery guys would have seen this, but to me its fascinating. Its a miniature hard drive with a CF Card interface, with a USB connector. Its about 20 years old (I think). To give you an idea of the size, that is a quarter next to the platters and my finger to the left and on top of a 2.5" drive. Not sure of the client will go ahead with recovery as he does not even know whats know whats the drive, but I will do a head swap regardless. Sorry but I don't think I have ever been so excited seeing a hard drive......

Could we see photos of the PCBs? What is the model/manufacturer of the HDD?

I can't identify the date codes, but I can see 552 (???), 0415, and 4D, so I'm guessing the drive was manufactured in 2004.

Sean’s right. Micro drive, ibm made them Seagate had their version. Not sure what this one is as it has left hand heads. Maxtor perhaps?

Have worked on before.
Suggestion: When doing the head swap, it would be useful to have another pair of hands around. The components are small and can damage them with just two hands. And donors are pretty much non-existent.
So, have someone around just in case.
