I am trying to complete a hot swap on one of these drives. We have already done a head swap but still cannot get access to data. It seems like the RZ_tbl is corrupt. Ace Labs have said a hot swap would be the only chance of getting data (if possible). In the Maxtor Manual is says to use mods SRV, RCT FMTI and 4Fh for the hot swap, but when I copy these to a donor and try to boot up the donor again the drive not come ready.

Anyone with experience of these drives have an suggestions?

I won't be able to help, but I would be interested in examining the relevant donor and patient modules. When you say that the RZ_tbl is corrupt, do you mean that it contains bad data, or do you mean that one or more sectors are unreadable? FWIW, the RZ_tbl for an N40P consists mostly of zeros.

Unfortunately RZ_tbl is not readable (media damage) and is the only copy on these drives, but can be taken from another drive hence the reason to try a hot swap.

The RZ_tbl has a 16-bit checksum at the very end. AISI, if this checksum is the same for both donor and patient, then the two are likely identical. You would only need to read one sector to test this, not all of them.
