Hi guys,
Got a electric surge on a laptop having this drive, it doesn't power up at all, hope it's a PCB problem?
checked 2-3 fuses (yellow) & 2 TVS diodes (red), which I assume they are, looks good. 2 fuses passes current and 2 diodes read as ~600 ohm (on reverse 111 ohm - got this reading when they are on circuit).
Also checked, 4 diodes near SATA connector (blue), they do not seem working! not sure what they are?
Can someone please confirm if my observation is correct?

If the drive doesn't power up at all, then you are looking in the wrong place examining components on the SATA lanes.
The readings you get on the diodes sounds pretty normal for good diodes.
The best method here is probably going to be just replacing the PCB along with transferring the IC602 chip.
What makes you assume it's a "power surge" on the laptop? That's pretty rare given that laptops run on batteries.

Thanks for the directions.
due to a lightning strike from telephone/power line - router, monitor & laptop, all got burnt!
So trying to recover data from the drive now.
Thought of switching with a exact same PCB board, the spec on the drive matches following:
PC Board sticker: OJ14451, DA4740D
P/N: 0J26252
MLC: DA5112
Rev: 220 OA90351 01, 110 OA90351 01 (as per PCB)
Chip: 88i9305-TLA2

The "diodes" in the blue box are capacitors.
If you place your ear against the drive, can you hear any sound at all?

Yes, that's the one. And yes, you'll pretty much always need to transfer that.

btw, what risk (e.g. ESD) I may have if I attempt to transfer the ROM and use soldering iron to solder it (with flux ...etc) as I do not have a advance SMD rework station.

Possibly, it is okay.
It depends on the soldering iron, and the expertise of the person using it. If you damage the chip, or the pads where it will be soldered to, or the surrounding componentes, it will be game over. So, choose wisely,.

appreciate all comments so far, they helped me lot.
if I use a donor PCB for this Hitachi drive, does the numbers (first two) on the PC Board sticker need to match exactly?
(in addition to matching board Rev, chip, P/N & MLC numbers and eventually with ROM transfer)

Attempting to repair original PCB seem bit difficult for me. so I ordered a PCB as I described in my previous post.
but I received a wrong PCB with sticker reading 0J21947, DA5260 instead of 0J14451, DA4740D (as per mine)
When quarried with vendor they state that they are still compatible even though sticker mismatches!!!
i.e. they stated that matching the PCB revision and controller chip is enough.
I quickly transferred my ROM to donor board using a new smd rework station but I'm bit scared to use this PCB due to this mismatch.
Can someone please help confirm if this is OK to proceed, and not going to cause any issue to my data or to the ROM/NV-RAM?

I measured the voltage at 1R0=0.7 and H coil=2.4.
Any more suggestion to troubleshoot this board?

I would have expected that the 1R0 voltage would have been closer to 1.0V or 0.9V. What are the corresponding voltages on the donor PCB?

my multimeter having a slight error it seems, planning to replace it.
there is a small delta voltage different between each side of 1R0 & H coild - is this 1R0 zero ohm?
my board: 1R0=0.91v & 0.87v and H coil=2.5v & 2.6.
donar: 1R0=0.9v & 0.85v and H coil=2.38v & 2.5.
SATA pin 7-9 has 5V.

Those voltages are OK. The differential voltage across the coil is also OK. The voltage you should be measuring is where the coil connects to a capacitor.
