PCB's inflating Reallocated Sector

April 19th, 2018, 8:57

PCBs of ST1000DM003 had fried. but it's working properly. Everything's fine.

I intend to swap this pcb. Donor drive was st2000dm001. this drive corrupted itself.

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36653

after the swap, drive comes up. But it freezes pc somehow. Reallocated sector count was 280 at the beginning.
but it rises 2000 --> 8940--> 10456

the terminal message changed.

I regret that.
i revert back to 0 point.
clear smart but Temp is 251 C.
i clean the original pcb. restart Pc. everthing's fine with fried PCB.

Why is this swap unsuccessful? is donor Pcb faulty?
another attempt was successful. i use st2000dm001's PCB for st1000dm003 last month.

I don´t understand what you mean, but

If you have one pcb working fine, then use it to recover the data from the disk then trash it.

st1000dm003 is o.k but pcb is fried. i want to change PCB.
st2000dm001 is donor for PCB. it has head issue.

swapping PCB increases Reallocated Sector Count 280 to 10254 in 1 hour.

If that pcb with the missing pins if fine, and the hdd works fine with it, can´t you just replace the connectors ?

is it harder than replacing 4 legged chip?

You can't expect to "fix" the sectors that are now on G-List by swapping PCB ...

no, it did.

RSC (Reallocated sector count) is 280 for 2 years..(3,3V area's burnt) No increase with burned PCB.

Donor PCB inflate it . it rises continously...it exceed 10.000 within 1 hour.

i revert back burned PCB and problem's gone.

If you don´t have a good pcb ( one that works correctly ) then it is easier to replace the connector then to keep searching for another pcb.

Could there be an adaptive mismatch arising from some variation in the read channel within the MCUs ???

Or the second board isn´t working so correctly.

I've changed plastic connector.it took app. 2 hours. desoldering and resoldering.

first time I melt a plastic of donor .

at second attempt using Aluminium foil was successful.

Ok, good it worked.
