Can MHDD recover a deleted partition from a USB drive ?

I have a 2GB western digital 2.5" USB drive with a deleted 2nd partition.
I can't get MHDD to recognise the drive at all.
Is there a way to do this or should I be trying with a different program?
The drive can be read and fdkisk /f has been run (twice) which found issues and corrected them.
The drive iis NTFS formatted

does anyone have any advice or have I just lost it?

PS - recovery with gparted in linux didn't find the lost partition.
It looks like it is marked as "free space"

MHDD won´t recognize it through usb, you need a different program.

I suppose it was not fdisk that you ran, but chkdisk. It can make a great difference.

Gparted also will not help you. You need software destined to recover deleted data, so at least Recuva, ReclaiME, GetDataBack, R-Studio and others.

I didnt do a good job of explaining did I - sorry.
(I was panicking a bit I think)

Yes the drive is 2TB not GB !
And yes it was chkdsk /f not fdisk.

And one more - it turns out the lost files are all in a single
sub folder tree with many folders (a few hundred) not a partition.

Your suggestion of DMDE is a good one it seems.
It does find the files but there is a problem with recovery.
They are listed as being good recoverable but only part is recovered.
I can now find them with "recuva" as well but both programs
can only recover about 81,920 KB (- yes kilo bytes - I double checked this time) of any of the deleted files.

recuva is a widows program as is DMDE - but I downloaded the linux64 version
of DMDE and am now in the process of scanning again in the hope it was windows-7 64
that is truncating the files since I'm using 2 different programs producing exactly the same truncation.

I'll post back when I've had time to finish the linux scan.
I have tried recovering AVI MKV and .TS files with the same result so presumably
its not a file type issue and unlikely to be a "binary" issue as EOF markers would cause
different truncated sizes. Incidently the fragments playback ok.

Nope - DMDE truncates the files at the same size under linux as well.

I've also tried a "clean "disc thats never needed to be fixed by formatting it ntfs
copying a file to it and then deleting it. This is an earlier model of the same WD USB family (1TB).
This was recovered on a totally different desktop machine with different hardware entirely under centos 7.4.
This is truncated to the same size (about 80MB) too.

Can anyone suggest a solution or reason for this please?
(Or even why that specific size results every time on all OS's and hardware and recovery programs?)
