I bought this hard drive, brand new, HD Hitachi 2TB 3,5" SATA3 HUS726020ALA610 2.60 (Ultrastar)
It is mounted on a ext. case 3,5" LC-Power LC-35U3-Becrux, connected to the pc by 3.0 Usb port

Please help me to understand whether it is appropriate to open an RMA procedure. I got it from an online retailer. In that case I have to send it back.
Many thanks for the help!

Since the first ignition it has always made this suspicious noise - link to the video https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qvPRP3lb4aCFAyd4FgH6lk0LFoxFUXGF/view?usp=sharing please turn up the volume of the player

Explanation of the video: Up to the first 10 seconds, the hd is ON, the engine runs silent, but is not connected to the PC. Once connected to the PC, the reading operations begin: it is possible to hear a "dry blow" for 5 times alternating with a continuous "tc tc tc tc tc tc tc tc tc", or, "tr tr tr tr tr tr tr", as you prefer. In the last seconds of the video you can hear the solitary "tc tc tc tc tc ..."
It is precisely the continuous and infinite "tc tc tc tc tc tc tc ..." that worries me: the noise inside the HD from what it comes from?
The dealer's assistance told me that it could be an alignment problem, but it is not reported by the software I used to diagnose (please, see attached images).

Thanks for your help

Does it work ? Does it pass ok in the manufacturer´s utility test ?

If not, ask for a RMA. If it seems ok, keep using it and make backups.

Thanks for the reply, man.
Yes, the hd seems to work well and seems to have passed the tests positively.
But, what can you tell me about the continuous triltry that you hear in the video? I do not remember that hd do that strange noise. It looks as if the head jumps. As if the hd tries to reposition the heads at any moment.
I would just like to understand why there is that strange noise.
I thank you and I thank those who want to help answer this question.
Thank you all!

Open up the RMA for sure and send it back for replacement. I would NOT use it for any purposes anymore.

We don´t know the specifics of your setup, the way it was formatted/installed, even if the power supply of your computer is ok. Also, power saving settings could have something to do with this.

If you are unsure of the condition of the drive, try to get an RMA for it. It is easier than keep being worried about it.

Apparently the way you are pointing to me is to open an RMA procedure.
Regarding the supply of power (Volt / Watt / Ampere) I indicated in the first post the model of power supply Case that provides electricity to the HD. Even the support service has suggested to me to try to connect the hd in a PC case, to test the hd. Then I will do this last attempt. To do this, I have to go to a repair shop for PC or at a friend's house. In fact, I only own laptops. Ok, thank you very much for your willingness to help me in this annoying situation. I will update you on this post about the last test I will do and, after that, I will send the hd for its replacement. Thank you again.

The hd was formatted by Paragon hd manager in default setting, I suppose in the right way for this type of hd. The power setting of the laptop is not setted for energy saving.
I don't know why that noise does...
Have a good day

I overlooked the part about it being in an usb enclosure. Since most of these and their power supplies are suspect of low quality, it really is better to connect the hdd directly to a sata port to do testing.

I prefer to use the OS to partition/format hdds, but that should not influence the behaviour of the hdd. It *may* be a case of the external enclosure not supplying enough energy to the drive.

For peace of mind, I think you should RMA it. And , if possible, as you have to use external disks, either get a NAS for storage, or a disk specifically made for usb connection ( like, those by name brands, like WD, even Toshiba I think has some ) . Not an aftermarket usb case.
