Western Digital Dragon / Draco head-assembly compatibility

May 24th, 2018, 6:10

Regarding WD Dragon and Draco disks:

I'm just curious to know whether anyone has tried head assembly changes between these two versions of drives? I've been inspecting the 3TB, which use 8 heads.

The data of manufacture is usually very close, and it looks as if the main revision between the two is the change of the type of PCB which was used. I looks like the media density is the same. Has anyone had success using donor heads from one Dragon in Draco or vice versa?

John
