Hello
I have a disk seagate st1000dm003 firmware cc44 that as a result of an electrical failure is recognized as only 4gb (it turns on normal, no strange noises, the bios like windows recognize it)
I think it may be the damaged firmware
Where can I find it and how to proceed?

Start by getting a terminal connection to the drive, and post the resulting log here.

Hi there !

Do you need the data on the drive ?

Why do you think the drive suffered some electrical problem ? Did you swap the PCB ? Most likely IT'S NOT a PCB problem and if you did swap it make sure you did swap the ROM chip as well ... But again this is most likely bad head(s) surface and/or firmware problem.

I would say that if you do need the data your best option is to send the drive to a specialized data recovery firm and NOT a regular computer repair shop.

Drive might have typical problems like re-location issues, media cache problem, dos table, etc .... At this stage if all heads are ok and the problem is with the firmware only it should be a reasonably cheap recovery. If you keep on messing up with the drive you might cause further problems and the price for the recovery will go higher if recoverable at all ...

Thank you for your attention.
The problem occurred when the ups failed in full installation of windows.
When restarting it appeared as a 4 GB disk. there is no visible damage to the pcb.
if I want to recover the data (it contains 700gb of technical information accumulated in years) but the option of sending it to a specialized company is not available in my country (I live in Cuba) and for the same reason it is not possible to consult Seagate. I have some experience repairing discs (I'm a hardware technician) but I have not found the firmware of this disc on the web

This is not a router where shutting down unexpectdly would corrupt the firmware with the fix being just a firmware upgrade away.

Can you get a terminal log ? That may give more information about what is happening with the disk.

Also, you may try contacting @Don Oleg from this forum, he is in Havana, I believe.

Ok ... you have important data on the drive that you want to keep but you did try to install windows on it ? Hope that you did install windows on ANOTHER DRIVE or at least another partition without data !

At any rate as stated you can't just flash firmware over the "broken one" on your drive and we don't even know if the drive is physically ok (probably not) so i would say lacking any other option your best "bet" is to contact @Don Oleg as stated ...

But if the problem is with bad head(s) or damaged surface you are out of luck ...

He will be able to help you out if the drive have problems like media cache, dos table, etc ...

You have to swap the controller from your PCB to an identical matching production dates too preferably. To me, it sounds like some sort of issue with a translator.
