IMPORTANT FILES DISAPPEARED WD PASSPORT EXT HD

June 2nd, 2018, 7:36

Hi HDD GURUS

On windows 10, I uploaded some very important files onto a WD passport 1TB.

Unknown to me, the drive was configured to HFS+. There seemed to be no issue at the time, but after the files were moved and the drive was removed... I have been unable to see the files, only other HFS+ Mac files which were already on there.

I have attempted EaseUS data recovery and I have had no luck seeing the files.

What can I do to recover these files? Bit of an emergency!

Thanks

Last week I had one of those drives.
It also appeared to have an Hfs+ partition which automatically mounted on a Windows 7 pc. I was able to view the files. I didn't try to write to the drive. All I did was clone it to a Toshiba branded replacement which also auto mounted on the Windows Pc.

IMHO Windows 10 hasn't any drivers to mount a HFS+ drive / partition. May be that the controller or software of WD does some kind of magic, but I wouldn't trust it. I doubt, the files were actually written on the drive. So I think, there is no way to get the files back. But you can try it with R-Studio. May be you have some luck.

Thanks all for your replys!

The strange part was that the drive was showing and I could see the files uploading which made me think there was no issue. Perhaps the WD created a partition by default... pretty frustrating now that I cant access it from other PC's. I have tried accessing through Mac and Linux OS's but no luck. The tricky part is I'm due to get on a flight in less than 48 hours and will be locked out of the office, a 2hour drive away, where the original files are/may be!

From what you guys are saying maybe I should abandon data recovery off the external drive and and put all effort into getting back into the office I was in and recover files of the original PC. I had backed some of the files up on a site server so not all will be lost. :?

Yeah, unless the user has some kind of shit installed on his machine that makes him believe that his data is safe just because it worked for him some times. But hey, why trust some IT specialist if a sales person says that it works. And hey, backups are overrated. No risc no fun.
