I got a 1TB WD here WD10JMVW-11AJGS1 with DCM EHOT2BB. I ordered a donor and they send me one with full model name match WD10JMVW-11AJGS1 but DCM is way off in my opinion.

damaged drive dcm
EHOT2BB
WD10JMVW-11AJGS1

donor drive dcm

HBMTJBK
WD10JMVW-11AJGS1

They say: DCM T2 amd TJ have same preamp and vendor. Please checkt the preamp and vendor revision. This HDD is 100% compatible for heads to your.

Can somebody confirm they are correct I normally go by model and 4th + 5th match in DCM.

Are they from the same country? I've found that different countries may not use the same numbering for preamp vendor and revision. So even if they read out the same in PC-3000 they might not be compatible if one is from Thailand and the other is from Malaysia (for example).

To cut it short: if you backed up patient ROM then transfer Donor ROM to patient PCB and if the donor identifies and working well then I believe that they are matched.

Given that it's well over a year off on the manufacture date, and the DCM doesn't match, I'd say it's like a 30% chance it'll work. Unfortunately, spending money on donors that don't work out is all part of this business. I probably ruin three of four drives in a typical week that don't turn out to be compatible. Sometimes it's because the case is an emergency and I've having to try drives that only "might" work, other times they should be compatible and just arent. I alway bill my client for the first donor, but I've averaged the price of a second one into my pricing tiers so I don't lose money if the first one doesn't work out.

This is why you can't do legitimate data recovery work for peanuts. You've got to bill a fair amount or you'll end up losing money.

I don't have an issues buying in a donor but when i buy i make sure i get as close as possible. They promised to send one with matching DCM and i got this it just seems in my books to much off. So I thought I ask here for help. There is nothing wrong of getting a second opinion and different input.

for WD10JMVW-11AJGS0 & WD10JMVW-11AJGS1 white label drives there is another criteria for head swap apart from DCM, have wasted many donors to rule this out. Now every time head swap on these drives works as a charm.
