Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

hello,
Just starting college so my money is a little tied up since I won't be working my hourly job as much but at this time all my hard drives are full. They generally are 1TB drives from old machines in crazy JOBD, RAID1 or RAID 0 arrays to host ISOs and other lab materials which makes management difficult. My main 6TB array is now maxed so I want to future proof it but not drop close to $1000 on a few drives.
Other then ebay for used drives are there any other quality places to pickup decent drives that won't die almost instantly(past issues). I would love to build a real ZFS based system as I scored a free(yet old) RAID card from a business owner.
