hi there,

i have very small knowledge, and i only know very basic stuff,
i have searched and i didn't find any info, but i am facing this next problem,
maybe someone can help me or point me in the right direction

i tried to reset smart on this hdd and i end up with power on hours 65536,
before reset smart i think was around 14000 power on hours
SEAGATE ST9160411AS, but have HP P/N: 484906-001

this hdd is ok, g-list is empty, i also run translator, theres no slow sectors
usually i reset smart for put hdd in refurbished pcs

i think this hdd have something strange, i have reset smart on others hdd some model and same part number and same hp rom,
and went all ok, i ended up with 0 power on hours, but this one every time i clear smart it put power on hours with 65536

initial fw was: HP86, i have updated to HP87 but same thing, always clear smart to power on hours to 65536

i'm having the same issue, all i discovered is that this is caused when de hdd pass 65536 hours of use, it seems obvious but i think that the power-on hours field exceed the limit and, in order to continue counting it fills other field that can't be reseted, so, even reseting the SMART doesn't work, having in mind that the lifetime of a hard drive is arround 45000 hours it make some sense. I asked a very skilled technician in refurbishing here in Brazil and he doesn't have idea of how to solve this, but, i still think that it have something that can be done. If you want to try to discover it feel free to contact me.
