WD10EZEX-08WN4A0 - Need help

September 24th, 2018, 10:45

HDD : WD10EZEX-08WN4A0 with F/W 5.5HH
Family : TrailXLB2(Royal)
Tool : Wdmarvel 3.3.1 Registered

The hdd makes clicks and after 2-3 min spindown. IF region map changed then loaded overlay then some modules can be read( There is always mild click sound).

I wrote the ROM from WD10EZEX-22MFCA0-01.01A01-05.5HH and changed to the patient SA Region then can read all the modules without error. but can not access the UA. After switching to this rom no click sounds.

Both ROMs SA regions are same but Dir Module address is different

ie. With Original ROM I can't read all modules but with Other ROM can read all modules without Problems.

Here attached both ROM images with ROM modules.
Modules-Patient.rar
(204.02 KiB) Downloaded 347 times

Modules-Donor.rar
(203.99 KiB) Downloaded 334 times

is there any problem in original ROM?

Can you read the 2 copies of the SA without problems?

In addition to probably having problems with some head, you can not access the user area to be the drive SED

Sure can read both copies without problem.

Head test took long time without error in original ROM. In other ROM quickly passed that test in SA track.

Can I perform that head test in UA?

This drive is not SED Locked Drive.

Which ROM modules (Adaptive) to transfer from patient rom to donor rom?

Are you sure about this?

I think that depending on the symptoms of the disc, one of the heads may be wrong.
If you can edit the ABA address, in the 0x0B module with WDMARVELL, you would try to leave the two ABA addresses of copy 0 and 1 pointing to the same copy.
Try copy 0 first and if it does not go well you can try to point to copy 1.

It's a suggestion.

Now the drive is visible in windows but full of bad sectors.

using both heads H0 & H1 can read & Write in SA but in UA only H1 read. H0 can't read even single sector.

ie: H0 can read & write in SA but not read even single sector in UA.

I have only WDmarvel 3.3.1.

What i have to do ?

Note: WDmarvel 3.3.1 can't able to edit headmap in RAM. Checked this in brand new HDD of the same model.

If this is a client job, you better outsource to someone with the needed tools and experience to rescue data.
