 Post subject: Remove TLER WD Red

Is there a way to remove the TLER of the WD Red NAS drives to convert them to a consumer drive ?

You can change the TLER setting from the Error Recovery Control (ERC) menu in HDAT2. However these changes will not survive a power cycle.

User's Manual HDAT2 v4.8:

You could use WDTLER to retrieve the current values of the TLER timers and compare them against those reported by HDAT2.

Or you can use expensive firmware tools to change those settings as well ... If it damage the drive or not i don't know as i did never tested it .... Bettr not to try and use apropriated drive for each device.

If the drive was made for a NAS it might have customization at firmware level that might not work as reliable on normal computer, etc ...
