hi guys, today I entered a new case of this disk that emits noises inside, from noise and clicks I think to the head. The disk has the following data plate: code: yar41bw0 n, m, c, d

Is it possible to get advice on how to identify a head donor?
I had found this product in September 2003 according to you it is possible to use the heads?

The real problem is finding an identical unit, I tried on ebay looking at over 200 units image after image. I found only units with 6y08l04 and not 003 it almost seems that Maxtor has only built this one that I have LOL, how do you do in these cases? Do you pray to the god of hard disks? : -}

MAXTOR Hard Drive Match Criteria (for Head Stack Assembly replacement) :

1. Full Model Number. Example: 6H500F0, 4R160L00420P1, 2F040L0

2. Code. Example: RAMB1TU0, VAM51JJ0

3. Four characters (sometimes three). Example: N,F,G,D / N,M,B,B

Hi Magnetepazzoo, was your head swap on Maxtor succsessful? I am up for platter-move (stuck rotor) on similar 160gb drive (was sitting for 10 years) and was looking for tips.

I've done open surgery before, but on single-platter 2.5" IBM drive, not on multi-platter/Maxtor, hence question on any pointers on this drive.

Platter by platter move will not work. You have to unstuck rotor or remove all platters with spindle assembled and put it to donor. It is only possible way as I remember.

Have had varying levels of success with unsticking motor by force, but it’s worth a shot IMHO.

there is a way how to do it platter by platter but you need to know some tricks how to do it. I am not sure if those tricks were in public.
