One of my customer has send lots of 4 TB WD purple surveillance hard disks. Most of them have smart / reallocated count issues.
How can I refurbish them using PC3000 ? Client insists to use them in non critical application instead throwing in garbage and is ready to take all risks which I have explained to him.
Appreciate if someone just outlines the process.
Thank you.

Do they have a huge amount of bad blocks or just a few of them ?

For a few of them move G to P; clear G, format tranbslator with P, do several securtity erase procedures / full erase several times to make sure new defect will not pop up and clear S.M.A.R.T. ...

Examples :

Testing hard disks with some confidence :

Executing a "Cosmetic Fix" on drives with Bad Sectors :

Assigning slow sectors to the P-List :

For drives with many bad blocks run Self-Scan If it fails you will need to check the log, look for damaged heads and depopulate them (when you reach the max. allowed defects on the P-List for a specific head). You can run ARCO as well. If all fails trash the drive and sell the PCB.

It might be easy to use WDMarvel and Auto-Arco for drive refurb. SeDiv and AUTO TREX are good alternatives as well. PC-3000 is very good but i wouldn't be using it to refurb drives. You would use PC-3000 for data recovery/data extraction and you would use other sort of tools and system for self-scan/ARCO/BURN IN, etc ... You don't want to have drives plugged to PC-3000 ports for days to refurb them if you can do the same with other tools more apropriated for refurb/testing and that will leave your PC-3000 ports free for data recovery jobs ...

Hi spildit Thanks a lot.
Actually disk has more problems than bad blocks like SA defects , smart failure and module corruption.May be disk has large surface defects too.
I am giving up as its is taking too much time.
Thanks again. :D

You can try something like ARCO but most likely it will not work and it will be a waste of time.

Maybe you can sell the PCBs on eBay ?
