data recovery on external HDD after dd of iso image under Li

Hi all, as the topic says I have accidentally overwritten my backup drive with iso image thinking that I am doing it on my USB drive, is there any way of reversing the damage, I have not taken any action, it happened just an hour ago, or should I go with some professional help? The command finished, i realized the problem post factum. The HDD is conventional, I think it is Hitachi if that matters and it is fully functional, thank you in advance

How large was the ISO?

overwritten data is gone, if the Iso was larger than 3GB you likely lost the structure as well, assuming that drive had a NTFS partition.

The iso is 2,00gb, what about the rest of the data? the HDD is 750gb and I had around 300gb of data?

you are lucky i would say, use any decent data recovery (e.g r-studio) software and you will get the data, ofcourse 2gb is gone ....

if only I have seen these posts earlier, I have just left my disk to a professional data recovery company, they said that it would cost around 50€ to recover my files if possible, will see what will happen, I will keep you updated , thanks to all for the help

hi again, so almost 90% of my data was recovered, even the directory structure and file names, just a slight problem with my photos and videos, they are in oddly named folders and they have several copies, and I will have to somehow figure out and sort, but nevertheless I am very happy with that data recovery company, they have done the job as expected and for less than expected as well, they offered me back up image of my data, so what else could I imagine
