Long story short: I'm following this guide to permanently disable the head parking of the drive to no avail.

I'm using HDAT2 6.4 (and now 5.1 and 5.0 too, just in case) and the process goes well until the last step, saving the Device Configuration Overlay (DCO). While on the "Security Mode Feature" option the text on the right reads: "not supported".
And if I try to set the value it will show aborted command (sorry, potato quality).

I recently disabled APM for another one, same Seagate model; had to resort to unplug the power cable so the drive would unfroze but everything went well. But not with this one: ST2000DM001-1CH164, firmware: CC27.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Drive is junk, replace it with something like a HGST model.

If you can't disable APM using the normal ways and if you are sure that the drive do support the APM and that it's not frozen, etc your next option would be messing up with terminal commands or patching sysfiles ....

Yes, they are crap. And no, the drive isn't frozen. They are some old drives that I didn't want to throw out; yet.
Thanks though, that was a pretty good reading.

Sir, you and I have different concepts for quick. :)
Sorry if I'm being dumb, but I don't get the connection between the DCO and the head shielding that you propose. Anyway, don't have the tools for that kind of fix but even without the video it looks easy to follow.

The MRT solution is for a completely different problem (disabling heads). It has nothing to do with APM.

Ok, thanks everybody. Will try the TTL route soon. I hope TTL to USB is acceptable or else I'll have to rebuild some old computer.
Anyway, I'll update this thread with the results or more problems. :)
