my drive total 976,773,168,, is bad between 875 to 930,, how script to get only tis area?

hello, im new in this forum and i was curious about this topic… well, i had an old conserved drive here with 80 gb of storage and decided to give a try on this… my drive also bricked after using phoenix. bios takes 10 seconds to recognize drives but ends up not recognizing this one anymore… i also thought the guy was saying bs but i have to confirm it does bricks drives since it bricked mine… i will later try to use a magnet to check if the drives gets alive again…

If it was a capacitor problem, the drive wasn't even supposed to power on

So, I ended up putting the drive in the freezer four times or so, that didn't solve the issue. But then I thought about using a magnet and it worked! I have no idea why but after magnetizing the drive there are no more read failures. Though, I still think there is something botched in the drive's firmware, S.M.A.R.T. data's attributes got randomized a couple of times after freezing the drive. This is not new though, it used to get randomized very few times even before I froze the drive. But stopped after using a magnet

1 - It's impossible for a OS to brick the drive. In worst case you would need something like a malware/virus that would gain kernel access to send direct I/O to the drive and use VSCs to kill the firmware, etc .... Meaning ... There is NO WAY for the OS itself to "damage" the drive even more in the way you describe (progressive damage over time with changed S.M.A.R.T. data).

2 - If you put a magnet on the top of the drive if you are lucky not to damage the heads you will end up damaging the platter anyway. Servo marks will be gone, heads will not find servo and drive will just click ..... The freezer and other junk that you did write will only make matter worse.

I will not comment any further just if someone is thinking of doing something like this to refurb or ressurect a drive just forget, IT WILL NOT WORK. EVER.

Why you say it's bullshit? I literally put the magnet (which wasn't powerful at all like those in a microwave) around the drive for 3 or 4 times (I haven't disassembled it), without exceptions. That was the only thing which 'ressurected' the drive.

I don't think you should try that. My problem is quite different from yours, I have no idea what happened to your hard drive. Phoenix (aka HD killer) OS ruined my drive (yet no one believes it, except zynx). Try the shred command

Turns out freezing was what 'revived' it. The drive started getting 'bad sectors' again after some time, using a magnet didn't work, so I just threw it in the freezer and kept it there for a day. Though I noticed this worked only if the drive was wet, if I let it sit near a warm place (against sunlight) the sectors would remain bad. I also noticed significant change in temperature, I recall the drive used to get very hot if the 'bad sectors' were there
