WD6000BLHX-01V7BV0 is SATA-II or SATA-III or SAS?

December 28th, 2018, 9:56

Greetings,

I have 2 of the exact same drives WD6000BLHX-01V7BV0.
The specifications everywhere says that they are 6Gbps.
After warranty is expired I noticed that they operate at 3Gbps only.
I tried different controllers - Intel X79 and Marvell 9128.
Different disk information utilities shows same frustrating values of “Maximum rate - 3Gbps” and “Current rate - 3Gbps”.
What’s wrong with them? Should they be this way? How can I achieve 6Gbps that are promised by all the stores that have them?

Respectfully,
E.Y.

Spildit, Both X79 and Marvell 9128 have 6Gbps ports. Cable has "SATAIII" label on the connector.
I found this image on support.wdc.com but I have never tried to use jumper, so I always had none installed. Should I put one somewhere? Will it do any difference?
If you'll say that jumper is useless, how can I "switch" this drive to 6Gbps using "vendor specific command, vendor utility"?

Spildit, I tried to connect other drive (SATA-3 SSD) to the same SATA-3 X79 port. I use sata cable with 6Gbps label on the connector.
First two screenshots (from HD Sentinel program) are WD6000BLHX, second two screenshots are SSD drive (connected to the same port with the same SATA cable).
As you can see the port and cable supports SATA-3.
Fifth screenshot is an image I found on WD support describing jumpers for mobile drives. What do you think, can adding a jumper change something?
If not, how can I issue that "vendor specific command" that you were talking about or use "vendor utility"?

Sorry for some duplicated info in my last 2 posts.
First post disappeared for some reason so I thought it was deleted and created a new one, with new info and new screeenshots.

Indeed I have 04.05G04 while some users have 04.05G07 according to userbenchmark.com website.
I found "WD Universal Firmware Updater for Windows". After finally being able to run it, I've got nothing (not surprising, considering that this tool has very short list of supported drives):

I tried to Google 04.05G07 firmware and found nothing. How is it possible to get one?

I also tried setting a jumper to SSC and RPS just in case. Didn't helped. Maybe it's possible for you to connect via TeamViewer and try something out?
Happy New Year's Eve!

These hard drives had SATA3 in exclusions, according to wdsspd tool that was provided by WD support.
I uploaded a newer 2.2.0.0 version http://files.hddguru.com/download/Softw ... 20Digital/

the tool you are trying is for WD Smartware drives (not any other)

there is NO ONLINE WD FW update tool in any type, AFAIK its the Seagate FW (long time maybe not anymore)

I think what you need to do is try changing the SATA cable (some MB include the 6Gb black color i guess)

Read my last post. The drives were sold with SATA3 in exclusions on them (BTW they were sold as factory refurbished). WDSSPD tool helped me to set full auto-negotiation.
