So, after WD buying HGST and then moving away from the HGST branding, what's the best HDD one can buy these days?

I would like to know the best HDD one can get (no matter what their cost is), and the best value / cost-effective HDD.

What would you buy if you needed a large (1TB+) HDD these days?

I guess we should mainly speak about reliability when talking about HDDs, as for performance no HDD will ever get anywhere closer to an SSD, so if someone buys an HDD these days is for large storage and want their data to be secure, so looking for reliable HDDs.

Thanks!

The best HDD (for reliability) is the one that's backed up. *All* drives will fail eventually and invariably at the worst possible time, so current back-ups are essential. WD Gold models are actually Hitachi drives, and so are most current Toshibas, I believe. They would be my first choice, combined with regular back-ups.
