We have a client with a hard drive flooded for days and over it has been opened by him. The worst is not that, ... he has thrown the lid ... yes, he has thrown it away.

The only way to recover it (to our knowledge) is to clean the platters and make swap with a donor hard drive.

The problem is that without the lid we only know the brand: Toshiba, and not even the capacity since the customer doubts if it was 500Gb, 1tb or 2tb ...

We have looked in this web
http://www.donordrives.com/blog/matching-guide#toshiba

we have verified that the information that we needed was in the cover ... Without this information There is no way to find a donor?

Did you try to connect just pcb.
I can see information with MRT (for new hdd s easily, old ones sometime in cp files). Maybe some other way with windows. For Seagate it's possible to see in disk manager. I haven't test toshiba

I also check whether ROM or pcb belongs to patient drives or not.
(Bad English sorry)

Thanks for answering, my English is not good either, do not worry :)

Unfortunately the PCB is dead, so we can not connect it.

hi.

if PCB not working, you have to check the ROM chip first of all. bec. ROM is not working means you can't recover the data. so first you have to ROM chip off and read via ROM READER. if you have rom bin file after doing this, pls upload the rom file.

also pls. upload the few pictures of hard drive. sometimes you can find donor easialy since this is toshiba hard drive.

good luck

The customer has found an invoice with the model: toshiba dt01aca200 With this data would be enough?. We only have this information

Of course all this assuming that the ROM is alive. We just wanted to know if it's worth all the work.

Check the ROM.
If it's dead, you don't need to do anything else.

Although it's a Hitachi look-a-like, it's still a Toshiba.

The millionaire's question is, if the ROM is alive, is it worth the job ( swap platters is a lot of job ), not knowing for sure if it will work? What are the chances that this model works? We do not know whether to continue or not ... tomorrow we will check the ROM

Thank you very much everyone for your help, this is a very friendly forum :)

finally the bios is alive ... Is it worth risking with a donor that may not work? What guarantees do you think there are?

We dont have all the information that recomended in
http://www.donordrives.com/blog/matching-guide#toshiba

Country of manufacture: Should be the same. - We dont have it.
Hard drive code: The first part of the HDD code should match. - We dont have it.

We only have the model that appears on the invoice : dt01aca200

Are you saying that this model does not use native Hitachi firmware architecture? :?

Would the OP mind uploading the ROM?

Here is a Hitachi model (HDS723030BLE640) with the same PCB:

According to my notes model DT01ACA200 is just another 7210DLE6 ARM Hitachi drive. So I'm not sure what you're talking about here.

If missed lid made so many questions how you expect to recover data from it? Especially with current problem.

Yes, it's an HGST drive rebranded as Toshiba.

Finally both my boss and the client have discarded the hard drive due to high risk and high cost. (Also one of the dishes had scratches) so we do not have it anymore.

Either way ... 7210DLE6 ARM Hitachi drive would have worked?

What would you do in a similar case where you do not know the exact model of the hard drive and you need platter Swap ? Do you risk with a similar model?

sorry for my bad english.

In simmilar case i reject the case !!! Simple !!! If the lid was open and the platter have scratches just forget it !!!!

My boss had the idea to clean platters, transplant them to a donor unit, and read the surfaces in good condition to try to extract the non-fragmented data that could be. Was it really such a weird idea?

YES.

Would you mind explaining why it is impossible? I am surprised by these statements, my boss was very clear about it. I do not have as much knowledge as he and I can not debate him. Thank you very much in advance.

Sorry for bad english
