Hi,

I have ST2000DM001 - 1ER164, firmware CC43. Disk has no important data (already cloned to another HDD), so I have nothing to lose, I just want to use it with android TV to store unimportant recordings.
Disk can be sometimes detected on 2/3 Motherboards and works. The third motherboard detects it but freezes in BIOS. So i hooked it to USB - SATA converter and disk is sucesfully detected in Windows. SMART reading is in attachment. Every time i power cycle the HDD it resets all the stats.

Is this any well known FW bug or is its SA area damaged ? Is there any known fix or test with TTL adapter ? (I dont have any pro tools)

Thanks

Probably bad SA and/or weak system head, this would explain why smart changes do not get written on SA.
ST2000DM001 - 1ER164 hdd are terminal locked, however you couldn't fix it even if terminal was accessible.

P.S.
Be carefull with your system drive, it has a yellow dot, this means that it has some issue.
Can you show us its smart attributes?

Thank you for response,

Well, thats sad they also locked terminal, without working SMART or at least some way to check G-list and head resistance, the disk is somewhere between "one damaged SA sector" and "total wreck minutes before death" :D
Seems like there is nothing else to do, just to trash it. It is also funny that some MBs can access and read data on the drive and some cant. I have no idea how some BIOSes can totally freeze and some work fine while using the same read commands.

Also, about the system drive, It was my testing computer I quickly put together. I used some random old HDD with few reallocated and pending sectors, but actually the disk suddenly died yesterday. I replaced it with another old HDD with half capacity but OK status, so no big deal
