My PCB aint answering the phone

February 17th, 2020, 10:52

Hello.

...Is what I wish my Seagate PCB would say. It doesnt. It says nothing.
I've followed a general guide of updating the firmware, so i made a small paper stopper for the heads connector. (must confess I dont know why)
I connected it to my USB to serial interface, checked the interface with TX&RX loopback. It checks out.
I checked that I have Tx to Rx and Rx To Tx. *I also tried the other stupid way, and it made me feel special.

However, In hyperterminal I'm getting CONNECTED in the bottom left of the screen. I guess I'm supposed to ctrl-z which I've done to the extent that the Z now is a bit more indented than the other keys.

Connection is set to 38400 bps, no parity bit and no flow control it's a seagate barracuda 3TB (the failing type).

Am I missing something here?

Slight update.

1. I see now that the baud rate in the terminal window is not correct.
2. I got something back, spinup and an error, see here:https://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=39489

This is turning out to a double post so please reply at https://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=39489
