Strange charger

February 21st, 2020, 8:22

Hello
I have received charger 2 days ago with normal calibration then click then continuous spinning then click then continuous spinning with full ID but all sectors shows zero, after temporarily fixing the issue and access user data I decided to fix the issue permanently, so I converted the drive to SATA and fixed SA for permanent access user area.
The weird thing is that with SATA PCB shows first 8000000 as UNC and converting back to USB all sectors returned readable without any issue and I could full image the drive.

Is there any explanation?

I think this is all ties to the new SMR version of TRIM. When you bypass with an unlocked SATA board, it doesn't load the secondary translator for used sectors and therefore shows them all as empty. This is a somewhat over-simplified guess at what is happening.

First 8 million sectors shows unc (bad) not empty and not even readable.
After that, randomly sectors ( SATA PCB )contains data but access is very slow.
After converting back to USB all sectors returned readable without any problems.

"after temporarily fixing the issue and access user data I decided to fix the issue permanently"

What is the "issue" and how did you "fix" it?
