Hello guys,
There is this Dell laptop which became unbootable as if there's no system or no drive (Toshiba Hdd SATA 1TB 2.5").
I extracted the drive and plugged it via USB connector to a working laptop to check its state.
Upon connecting, Windows 10 detected problems with the drive and offered to analyse and fix them . I accepted and the drive was recognized and I could explore the drives and folders as normal.
I replaced it in the original faulty laptop but same result.
The problem is when I connect it back to the Windows 10 system via USB, it's not recognized at all.
It seems the previous fix by windows damaged the HDD instead of fixing it.
(I tried with another working Hdd from another laptop via USB and Win10 proposed to fix the error again, which I did not accept obviously).
My goal here is to retrieve some files from the drive before initialize it and lose everything.
Thanks for any lead on how to deal with this issue.

Stay safe, stay home !

The question is not interesting to anyone.
No information needed.
Everyone is busy fighting the virus.
DMDE take and see what is wrong.

The drive, no doubt, has weak heads and/or degraded media ("bad sectors") and possibly a corrupted MFT (Master File Table). "Fixing" the problem just attempted to repair errors in the MFT and did nothing about the bad sectors/weak heads and probably discarded files whose MFT entries (orphaned files) were unreadable.

Windows wouldn't boot because files need to do that are corrupted/unreadable. If you had cloned the drive before attempting the repair, you might have been able to recover your data from the clone in fairly good condition. The drive itself is not repairable.

I would suggest you clone the drive with ddrescue or HDDSuperTool and then try to recover what you can from the clone using DMDE or other data recovery program. You might have to settle for a "raw" recovery" for many files.
