Hello, this drive is a new drive from Maxtor and I think thta the best thing to do is this :
1- Change the processor ( chip smooth L7250E 1.2 ) of the PCB damage
2- Buy another drive - same model and size - and change the PCB.

PS: The only problem that you can have is if some part inside of your hard disk is damage this will burn the new board.
Also if the original PCB has others problems then the burned processor, change it will not solve the problem.

Nothing is easy, just looks like.

Chances of success are high, so you should try. But check motor for short circuit BEFORE you swap the board. If PCB doesn't match f/w in HDA, your drive may perform head knocking or indicate busy state and data will be unreachable. In that case just quickly turn off the power. Usually nothing will be damaged, unless you do something really weird ;)
Good luck.

Yes, I have one :) Measuring the electrical resistance of coils with ohmmeter ought to be enough. :iknow:
