I would like to reset a harddisk to be able to use it. I do not care about the data, erasing it would even be preferable.
The disk is from an unknown and unavailable DVR and locked.

This appears to be the data sheet:
https://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/sup ... 33414m.pdf

It cannot be "initialized" in Windows (IO error, though "clean"ing the disk with diskpart does not give error) and also gives errors in GParted on Ubuntu, connected using two different USB-SATA adapters and with direct SATA.

I have tried hdparm v9.54 on Ubuntu in numerous ways to set/unlock/erase the disk, obtaining only ""SG_IO: bad/missing sense data," messages.
I have tried the PSID printed on the disk label as well as the supposed master password "Seagate " (25 spaces) without success.

Code:
Security:
Master password revision code = 65297
    supported
    enabled
    locked
  not  frozen
  not  expired: security count
    supported: enhanced erase
  Security level high
124min for SECURITY ERASE UNIT. 124min for ENHANCED SECURITY ERASE
UNIT.

On Windows, I have tried the Seagate Toolkit, which seems to be for external HDDs, and SeaTools which seems to handle a direct SATA connection better than a USB adapter, but also fails on any of the advanced operations (delete). It seems this is only applicable to HDDs with built-in encryption - apparently these have a way to reset/disable the encryption, losing all data (which is acceptable for me) ("instant secure erase (ISE) for self-encrypted devices (SED)").

So, is there a way of resetting the disk?
