I have this laptop that I use daily, but Sunday received a Windows 10 Blue Screen.

The ST2000LM015 HDD is approximately 1.5 years old and no longer boots.
I replaced the HDD and installed fresh OS.

The drive is still in warranty.
I would like to recover some recent work files if possible from ST2000LM015.

Here are the symptoms:
The drive shows up only for a little while in windows, then disappears.
No clicking and continues to rotate after the error.

I have an older no-name USB 2.5" SATA adapter.
When I connect the drive, it is initially picked up by Windows 10. I can see all my folders in the root of both OS and Data partitions.

After a little less than a minute, I get the "Device Descriptor Request Failed" error from windows and the drive disappears.

Crystal Disk Info can't see the drive because it errors out.

Is there somewhere I can read up on troubleshooting this drive?
Thank you in advance for any help, suggestions or information.

Hello,
1. if the data is critical take it to a pro who has proper equipment.
2. If you can afford loosing it try cloning it under linux (HddSuperClone, dd or ddrescue).
Doing it in reverse order is not a good idea.

Thanks, I'll try to find someone who specializes in that work.
