I bought a new drive on Amazon. When it arrived, I ran a smartctl test when value 9 (power on hours) was 0 hours. Recently I saw a second test in the log which confused me because it had over 40,000 hours. I ran a third test to confirm the order of the log, it goes newest to oldest. See the output here now showing all three tests, third test (40 hours), second test (0 hours), third test (40829 hours).
I also noticed that the are three errors logged at 40829 hours. How is this possible? Could someone have noticed they have a failing drive (the errors happened), ran a test, dropped the power on hours to 0, then sold it on amazon? Is there something I'm not understanding, and this really is a new drive? I'm really confused by this.
